General Race Series Information

Time:
Races will start at 6:00 pm.

Location:
Registration and Start/Finish will be at the warming hut at the Tie City parking lot of Happy Jack. To get to Tie City, take I-80 to exit 323. Turn towards the rest area (left if coming from Laramie, right if from Cheyenne) and then left onto 210. The trailhead is about a mile down the road on the right. Here's a map

Categories:
Beginner - Short, less-technical routes; non-competitive. Don't feel comfortable in bike shorts? This is for you.
Sport - non-competitive/sort-of-competitive.
Expert - eat-your-competitors'-children competitive.
Single Speed - Those are bikes, not categories; race with the group that matches your ability.
We are not doing any age groups this year, but if we get enough people we will look at adding them next year.

Registration/Entry fees:
Race day registration only, between 5:00 and 5:55 in the warming hut at the start/finish. Five bucks a race.

Racing Licenses:
Leave it at home. If you bring one, we might charge you extra.

Parking fee:
The Medicine Bow National Forest charges a $5 daily parking fee at the race trailhead. You can also get an annual pass at the Forest Service office in Laramie for $30.

Courses:
Courses will change each week. Course lengths will depend on category. Beginners will do 3-5 miles. Sport riders should plan on 8-15 miles, while experts should expect 12-18 miles. Course are well marked with red and/or yellow arrows at each intersection. Click on a race date on the left for more info. about each race.

Number plates:
Riders will be assigned a number at their first race. They will use the same number throughout the season. Riders are allowed and encouraged to use whatever they want for a number plate. As long as the number is easily visible to the timers, it's fair game. At the end of the season, riders will vote on the coolest plate. To be eligible for the vote, number plates must have survived through at least three races.

Results/Scoring:
Results will be posted on the Results/Scoring page the morning following each race. It's unlikely we will have results available right after the finish of the race. Please don't hassle the timers for your results while the race is going on.
Points will be tallied for the duration of the season. Details are on the Results/Scoring page.

Prizes:
The winners of the expert races will get their entry fees back and then some. We've received a bunch of cool prizes to give away, too. We'll do a raffle after each race to give those out.

Leaders "Jersey":
In order to properly recognize thier supreme dominance over Laramie mountain biking, the current points leader in each category will have to carry, on thier bike, some small trinket until the next race. Any reported sightings of the leader between races without it will result in a ten point deduction.

Sandbagging Law:
If you're deemed a sandbagger (decided entirely by the judges) you'll be moved up a category. No whining about it, either.

Post Race BBQ:
We'll provide a hot grill after each race and encourage racers to bring their grillable of choice to enjoy in the company of other like-minded intellectuals.

Important:
Cycling can be dangerous. Really dangerous. Especially mountain biking. Because of this, racers must wear a helmet and sign a waiver.
